Re: Pearson sacked
Did anyone notice the Cowley bros. were also given the old "tin tack" from Huddersfield? They took over with the club in the relegation zone and in free fall and I would have thought the remit was keep us up. Its not been all plain sailing , they have had some dips along the way in form but generally they did the job they were asked to do.

Now aside from the silver lining of escaping from Huddersfield ( anyone thats been there would know :-) ), the reason cited is that they "The Cowleys" see a different direction for the club than us the owners? Probably the Cowleys said you need to invest or risk the same again? Or they were just used as a short term? Who knows?

I always respected Mullins as a player and felt sorry for him when he was undeservedly suspended for our 2006 Cup Final. He's now become the only black manager in the PL (Espirito Santo isn't really black is he?), and I hope he manages to keep Watford up (if that means Villa get relegated) because he would set a good example of how black coaches can succeed if good enough.

I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. He was brought in when they were 7 points off safety and as far as we know they may already be safe. If he had a go at the team on Friday wouldn't you back him. They were shite in the first half and if we played like that and i heard our manager had thrown a wobbly I would have been happy to hear it. I was trying to work out whether this sacking was worse than the Cowleys at Huddersfield just after they beat Brentford. Footbal never ceases to amaze. Oh, and on the Brooking thing we did not sack Roeder, he was ill so we had no choice.

A source of mine who works in the media department at Watford said it was because Pearson refused to suck off Elton John through a glory hole.

Easy to believe he's really kicked off after.

Old school is Pearson, cracks me up.

The time he got clattered by McCarthy of Palace accidentally and got shitty, was a great bit of theatre.

KS - I'm not having that it's IMPOSSIBLE to cone into a car crash of a struggling club and get more points than your predecessor.

Re: Pearson sacked
He probably has done himself a massive favour even if it was inadvertent.

He did a decent job at Watford, 25 points from 20 matches, compared to only 9 from the previous 16.

The pool of relegation escape artists has dwindled a fair bit in recent seasons, Pardew, Allardyce, Pulis, Hughes, all seem to have slipped into retirement

He probably won't be short of offers

Re: Pearson sacked
that theory about bonuses may not be far away, allegedly there was problems in a previous season with players not getting a staying up bonus. not surprised scott 'the project' duxbury is still overseeing this mess

Sven Roeder 9:11 Mon Jul 20
Re: Pearson sacked
Have a recollection in the post match interview that he was asked about Masina coming off at h/t and very briskly said he didn’t want to talk about that.
Not impossible that someone at Sky had been told about an incident and was stirring the pot.

I don’t care if it’s not true but always loved the story that Pearson went on a walking holiday in Eastern Europe and when out in the country he was confronted by a pack of wild dogs.
And that he grabbed a branch and fended them off by poking the hounds in the eyes.
Probably had his branch to hand on Friday night.

"We’ve also done just this in the past when bringing in Brooking and it nearly worked"

Don't know why people persist with this myth. In the 8 games before Brooking took over we got 13 points, which is European qualification not relegation form. (Extrapolate that over 38 games and we'd have had 62 points - 6th place.) Unlikely as it is, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Roeder might have won all 3 of the last games and kept us up. I'm not saying Roeder was a good manager or denying that Brooking was fantastic. Just giving the facts here.

It was nothing like the Avram Grant season where we gave up without a fight and got 1 point from the last 9 games. That season is when we would have been clearly improved had we sacked the manager at any point. Even bringing in Doris the tea lady could have done a better job.

Re: Pearson sacked
Apparently gave them a massive dressing down at HT and may or may not have punched someone.
Kept them all locked in the dressing room after the game and wouldn't let the chairman etc in until he'd finished tearing strips off them. Chairman finally came in and a massive row erupted.
Senior players backed the player who may or may not have been punched, and it became obvious his position was untenable so he got the boot.

Allegedly.

Source: mate who has connections to someone who works at Watford.

He's pretty bitter. Was lording it a bit earlier in the season when they "nicked" Quina of us.

Shame really.

Re: Pearson sacked
If they stay up he will take the credit, if they go down he will blame the owners.

Never really liked Pearson, but his tough guy image and the way he comes over in interviews cracks me up. Expect to see him re-emerge in his natural habitat, ie the Championship.

The White Horse 6:01 Mon Jul 20
Re: Pearson sacked
Why wouldn’t they sack him if they think they can get more out of their players last 2 games.

If the boot were on the other foot I know I’d advocate sacking Moyes had we lost v Norwich and on Friday.
We’ve also done just this in the past when bringing in Brooking and it nearly worked- albeit we were in deeper shit than Watford
are in - even though they’re still in quite deep.

On top of that he’s a bit of a blockhead from the Vinny Jones cloth.....they likely didn’t think things would go this south & now have no inclination in keeping him next year. They’ve taken a punt and it might come off.
